Par-3, Nine-hole Golf Courses Site Selected
The 25-acre site located adjacent to City Hall formerly known as Claude Hamilton farm site. This site continues the "central town" theme city leaders are trying to instill. There will be two tee-box locations at each hole to give the option of an 18-hole course. There will also be an underground sprinkler system and a small clubhouse where an attendant could accept greens fees and "perhaps" offer some items like golf balls and tees for sale. We hope to begin fairway work this fall, so we can open by summer next year. At the recently purchased Plattner site a disc (Frisbee) golf course and hiking trails are planned.

Top Ten Things To Do In Missouri This Spring
Those of you that are new to the Fort Leonard Wood area may be asking yourself "What is there to do around here?" As someone who has lived in Missouri her entire life, I (Heather) would be happy to share with you my Top 10 favorite things to do here this spring!
10*Frog Fest- A Waynesville tradition, it doesn't get any more "small town America" than this! Bring the family to Waynesville City Park on Saturday, May 15th for the best fair foods (alligator on a stick, deep fried tweenkies, funnel cakes, you name it!), live entertainment, booths, games, and of course.... a frog race!
9*Meramec Caverns, Sullivan- The largest commercial cave out of Missouri's 6000 caves, Meramec Caverns is Missouri's "burried treasure". See some of the rarest and largest cave formations in the world. Go for a day or camp for the weekend! http://www.americascave.com/
8*Hiking & Biking- Take advantage of living in the beautiful Ozarks... get out and enoy it! http://www.missouri-hiking.com/
7*Discovery Center, Springfield- Science, education, creativity, imagination and free-play collide in one explosive center. One of my kids' favorites! Where else can you dig for dinosaur bones, build and fly your own airplane, climb inside a giant eyeball, give the five o'clock evening news report, perform surgery and capture your own shadow? http://www.discoverycenter.org/
6*Hannibal- Spend a day or a weekend walking in Mark Twain's shoes! http://www.visithannibal.com/
5*Branson- What's not to love about Branson with with more than 50 live performance theaters, three pristine lakes, 12 championship golf courses, an international award-winning theme park, dozens of attractions and museums, an Historic Downtown district, shopping galore, a full range of dining options, and a host of hotels, motels, resorts, RV parks, campgrounds and meeting and conference facilities. Whew! http://www.explorebranson.com/
4*Kansas City- Any city slickers achin' to get back to civilization? Escape to KC for the weekend! Spend a weekend hanging out on the Plaza. Shop and dine with the best of them! http://www.visitkc.com/
3*St Louis- My hometown! Soooo much to do! The St Louis Zoo is a must! 5000 animals from 700 species on 90 acres, including an insectarium, a children's zoo, and a miniature train. The best free zoo in the country! http://www.stlzoo.org/ Spend a romantic weekend in Forrest Park touring the Jewel Box and the Art Museum. Go for a picnic or a bike ride. Take the kids to the Turtle Playground or the Science Center. Go on a Segway tour. DEFINITELY come back in the summer to catch a play at the Muny. http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/parks/forestpark/
2*The Lake- "The Lake" means one thing in Missouri... the beautiful Lake of The Ozarks! Personally, I enjoy shopping at the outlets in Osage Beach, but there's tons to do at The Lake including boating, fishing, golfing, water parks and more. http://www.lakelinks.com/
1*Hermann- Probably Missouri's best kept secret, Hermann is one of the most beautiful towns you'll find in the country! Nestled along the banks of the Missouri River, just 90 minutes from downtown Saint Louis the City of Hermann is a picturesque German Community offering Old-World hospitality and the quiet charms of an earlier time. With an abundance of spectacular views, more than 150 historic buildings, quaint inn and B&Bs, world class wineries, museums, shops and galleries, and fine dining, Hermann is the perfect place for romantic retreats. It is a perfect getaway not far from home! http://www.hermannmissouri.com/

Connections
As the old saying goes, "It's not just what you know, it's who you know." Sometimes in military life WHO you know is important because WHO you know often determines WHAT you know. That's why networking is so important. The military is more than a career field, it's a community, a way of life. Getting to know the members of your community can be a huge benefit for both a soldier's career and for his family.
If you're new to the Fort Leonard Wood area we'd like to be sure we're some of the first people you get to know. We're eager to be your local resource for not only finding the perfect home, but for finding your way around town, finding great places to shop and eat, learning the local area attractions and getting plugged into a variety of social or religious activities in our community. Give us a call, stop in or shoot us an email. We'd love the opportunity to be your Fort Leonard Wood connection!

Army Wife Network
The interenet has become a great resource in making our lives a little easier in so many ways- communication, shopping, education... and socializing!! Military spouses in this day and age have something that so many before us did not have... and that is the ability to reach out to others who understand this life that we live. Gone can be the days that military wives felt separated from the rest of the world. With a click of a mouse and the scroll down a page you can instantly be in touch with any number of military wives who have "been there, done that and bought the t-shirt". At the Walker Real Estate Team, we pride ourselves on having "walked in your shoes". We know what it's like! We've made the PCS move across the country. We've moved to foreign countries. We're all about helping you get settled into our beautiful community and we're all about providing you with resources that will make the transition of moving easier on you and your family. A Community That Cares
One of the many benefits of living in a military community, especially the Fort Leoanrd Wood community, is being a part of a community that cares. The outreach of the Fort Leonard Wood community is amazing. The people here are friendly, helpful, and band together. Yesterday a member of our team found herself and her car stuck in a snow bank in one of our growing neighborhoods. Quickly, a number of neighbors came out to assist her and get her back on the paved road. That's what community is all about...helping each other in our times of need, celebrating with each other in our times of victory.
Tonight at 7pm the Fort Wood Community Spouses' Club will hold a Basket & Service Auction at the Pershing Community Center following a Social Hour at 6pm. Auction proceeds benefit community outreach and scholarship programs. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy an evening out and give back to the community at the same time.

Valentine's for Vets
It's the time of year that we see red hearts, pink rose petals and chocolate filled boxes on store shelves, TV commercials and in the hands of frantic husbands who are shopping at the last minute. Valentine's Day... the day we go out of our way to tell that special someone in our lives how much we love them. For military couples, Valentine's Day is usually really hard or really wonderful. It's really hard when your soldier is deployed, TDY, or training late. It's really wonderful when your soldier is actually home and you remember the past years that he or she was not... the celebration is extra sweet. But what can make Valentine's Day even harder is when a soldier is in the hospital. Why not cheer up a soldier this Valentine's Day? If you have children, this is the perfect opportunity to teach them important life lessons like the value of random acts of kindness and to respect the selfless service of our military members. You still have a few days! Get out the red construction paper, scissors, glue sticks and glitter. Take your creations to the closest military hospital (General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital for those of you at Ft Leoanrd Wood) or the nearest VA Hospital. Show some love! Happy Valentine's Day from the Walker Team!!

Walkin' In A Winter Wonderland
One of the greatest things about living at Fort Leonard Wood is the variety of experiences that you will enjoy. The weather here in theOzarks is never boring! In fact, the old joke in this part of the country is that if you don't like the weather, just wait 24 hours... it will change! Winters bring snow and ice, intermingled with sunny 70 degree days. Summers bring heat waves and thunderstorms and the occassional crisp, cool evening. Spring and fall are by far the favorites in this region as they bring lush grass, gentle breezes and the most breath-taking fall foliage. Embracing each season and each day is the key to happiness in the Ozarks. Make the most of it! Be prepared in the winter months by having snow shovels, rock salt and ice scrapers on hand. And definitely have a few sleds ready to go as the hills in this area are absolutely perfect for a snowy day of fun memories! This week we're gearing up for more snow. This means people will be stocking up on items like milk, bread and diapers... things that they won't want to get out in the snow to get should it accumulate as they're predicting. It also means kids will be watching the local television stations in anticipation of seeing their schools' names listed under the School Closings. Moms will be checking the closets and cabinets for hot chocolate, warm mittens and snow boots. And people all over the Fort Leonard Wood area will be walking in a winter wonderland!

Home Is Where The Army Sends You
This week the Walker Team will be saying "farewell" to General Martin who will be leaving Fort Leonard Wood for a new assignment in Kuwait. "Farewell" is a word we seem to use frequently in the military community. We don't say "goodbye" because most likely, our paths will cross again. Time and time again we've come across friends that we've made at previous duty stations. That's one of the amazing benefits of being a military family- no matter how many moves you make, no matter how many friends you say "farewell" to, you're still a part of a bigger family. A forever family. As military families, we understand that "Home is where the Army sends you." And home is what you make it. It's easy to focus on the temporary state of a move, knowing you'll only be living in a certain area for 2 or 3 years. But many opportunities are missed with this kind of mindset. We've found that embracing your time at each duty station, putting roots down, making friends and getting involved in the community are the keys to a positive experience, wherever the Army sends you.
If you're new to the Fort Leonard Wood area or will be joining our community soon, we'd love for you to touch base with us. Let us help you make the most of your time here in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks and let us help you make this "home".
